Run like a Girl

I'm in! I found out a couple of weeks ago that my name was drawn in the Nike Women's Marathon lottery and I'm in. Game on, so I will be running 26.2 miles again in San Francisco on October 19.

When I found out the news, I was both excited and wanted to vomit at the same time. The thought of running a marathon kind of frightens me a bit, especially because I now know what to expect after running my first marathon last February. This time though I want to run a better and faster marathon and I will run a 5:30 marathon or less. (I want to beat Katie Holmes' NY time from last year for sure!)

I started training this past week and Carlo joined me for my first "long" run of my training program this afternoon. I have not done very well training for our last two half marathons in February and March, so I definitely have to commit myself to succeeding and putting in the miles and hours. I'm looking forward to a great run in October and having this training hopefully make me have a smoking time for the San Francisco half in August and then perhaps a smoking (or at least better) body for our wedding 5 days later.

To help me get in the mood for marathon training today in addition to reading all about the London Marathon this morning, Carlo and I went to see Run Fat Boy Run. It was a fun movie and had a great message that running a marathon--as well as much of life--requires determination, passion, and a refusal to give up. I thought I did an okay job at hiding my tears at the end, but Carlo totally called me on it. Hopefully I can recall some of the funny moments in the movie on race day in October to help me along.

Congratulations, Alex! I'm so impressed you're going to do another marathon and that it'll be so close to your wedding. I think it'll be nice for you to have something non-wedding to focus on at that time. I'll look forward to reading about how your training goes! Best of luck!

That's exciting! Good luck with the training. I saw Run Fatboy Run on Saturday and I'll admit that I had to wipe away a tear or two at the end.
